VPP donates $10,000 to WVLDI to support ongoing training and teaching efforts

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP), a trusted business partner to veterinarians, has made a donation of $10,000 to the Women’s Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative (WVLDI). VPP’s donation will help support WVLDI’s ongoing efforts to achieve a stronger, more effective and personally rewarding veterinary profession by preparing the leaders needed to realize that vision.

Over the past 40 years, the veterinarian profession has undergone a great demographic shift in gender; however, the change in leadership hasn’t kept pace and reflected that reality. Women, now more than half the profession and rising, need to be better represented in leadership roles in academia, government, professional organizations and practice ownership.

“As VPP grows, it is important for us to give back to the industry and focus on organizations whose purpose and vision are aligned with ours. VPP’s business model is based on having strong veterinary leaders who co-own hospitals with us” said Rich Lester, Chief Executive Officer at VPP. “If the veterinary profession is going to prepare the next generation of leaders in the profession, it’s going to have to be focused on women. We are excited to support the work WVLDI does to prepare and promote women leaders, some of who will become veterinary hospital owners.”

WVLDI works to spark discussions about the changing demographics and importance of developing leadership through media outlets, social media, presentations at major events and workshops. On campus, WVLDI helps college students develop their skills and appreciate the importance of preparing for leadership opportunities in their careers.

“VPP’s donation will help WVLDI continue to raise awareness and help educate, train and prepare women to step into leadership roles in the profession at every level” said Dr. Kim Therrien, President WVLDI. “Looking forward, in a profession that is now substantially female, it is critical that the profession embraces and supports our focus of our leadership trainings and education”
