VPP donates $10,000 to Not One More Vet for Mental Health Support
Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP), a trusted business partner to veterinarians, has made a donation of $10,000 to Not One More Vet (NOMV). VPP’s donation will help fund NOMV as they provide veterinarians with mental health support, they need to address the Industry’s challenges with suicide.
Veterinary professionals are twice as likely as the general public to experience serious psychological distress and one and a half times as likely as the general public to have experienced depression. As an organization, NOMV not only provides online peer-to-peer support, but also provides members of the profession with the education and tools they need to fight the battle.
“After being directly impacted by the tragedy of suicide within the past year, VPP decided that we need to support an organization that is committed to mental health support and suicide prevention in the veterinary field” said John McDonough, CEO of VPP. “Upon learning more about NOMV, I was impressed by their unique approach and the grass-roots support their organization has developed. I’m heartened to know that our donation could help them reach more people in the veterinary industry who are in need.”
The people at NOMV are not therapists nor do they hold degrees in mental health. They are a large group of veterinary professionals who listen, commiserate and give each other a shoulder, an ear, and a bit of advice when needed. NOMV does this through there private, online groups that veterinarians can join to talk openly and honestly about the struggles within the veterinary profession.
“NOMV’s group has grown steadily over time and our membership currently exceeds 16,000 veterinarians worldwide. We want it to be known that veterinarians are never alone and that we are here to support each other at all times. VPP’s donation will help us continue to build a strong support system and be there for veterinarians in need.”
