Chairman of the Board, John McDonough, Steps into CEO Role

Veterinary Practice Partners announced today that Chairman of the Board, John McDonough, will become CEO, replacing Rich Lester, the Founder of the Company, who has chosen to step down. McDonough brings 20+ years of human healthcare services experience, including senior leadership positions with PharmScripts, a multi-site long-term institutional pharmacy and American Renal Associates, a partnership model multi-site dialysis provider. John also currently serves on the Board of private equity-backed Eye Health America and Thrive Skilled Pediatric Care.  Mr. Lester will become the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPP and continue as a Senior Advisor to the Company he founded.

“John McDonough is someone I have known and respected for 20+ years and I am excited to pass the stewardship of the company I founded to him,” stated Lester. “Since starting the company 9 years ago, I have been running non-stop, and with three school-aged children at home I decided now was a good time to slow down and have a little more time at home. I will still be involved at VPP, most notably introducing more practice owners to the co-ownership model, but leave the next phase of the company’s evolution in John’s very capable hands. His career has centered on working with clinicians to deliver exceptional care to patients and an exceptional experience to clients – both hallmarks of VPP’s vision for becoming the premier employer of veterinary care professionals.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rich and the leadership team closely over the past 2 years as a member of VPP’s Board,” stated McDonough. “I’m looking forward to working with our practice partners, veterinarians, managers and staff members to make VPP’s hospitals the very best providers of veterinary care services. We will achieve this by remaining true to our Core Values, which include co-owning our hospitals with veterinarians; investing in our best asset – our people; focusing on delivering exceptional care and exceptional service; and always trying to be even better. Between this unwavering focus and the opportunity to further grow our existing practices and add new practices to the company, the future for VPP is very bright.”
